The Dove Announces a Call for Proposals

The Dove Block Project, a community arts center in historic downtown Geneva, NY, will make an open call for programming proposals for the 2027 season. Proposals for workshops, exhibitions, art camps will be accepted starting July 15, and the deadline for submissions will be September 1.

This is an opportunity for local individuals and groups to share their knowledge, skills, and creative talents with the Finger Lakes region in ways that align with The Dove’s mission to bring accessible, quality arts programming to all members of the community and elevate awareness of Arthur Dove—a Genevan and a significant figure in the development of modern art. Programming is FREE of charge to participants thanks to generous grants, individual memberships, corporate sponsorships, and donations.

  • Art Exhibitions: Individual regional artists and art groups present 2D and 3D work in a professional gallery space with modern hanging and lighting systems. An exhibtion typically lasts for one month. Past exhibits from individuals and groups have included paintings, drawings, photography, installations, crafts, mixed media sculpture, and fiber art. All exhibition proposals are due by the deadline.

The Dove specifically welcomes proposals for workshops for youth and adults, and art camps specifically for school-age children and/or teens, and adults 55+. Please be sure to specify the age group that you are interested in working with for each proposal.

  • Workshops: Regional artists and artisans present hands-on creative experiences in one-day, multi-day or multi-week sessions for adults, children, and families. Examples of past and upcoming workshops include 2D and 3D projects like painting, printmaking, felting, painting a collaborative community mural, plein air painting, mobiles, screen printing, book illustration, digital art and animation, and discussing and writing poetry. Workshop teachers are offered an honorarium of $250.

  • Art Camps: The Dove provides art camps for youth during school breaks and summer vacation. It offers art camps for adults aged 55 and over during the fall, winter, and spring months. Programs must be appropriate for the age range for which you are proposing the camp. Camps run weekdays, either for a full week or for a three-day period. Daily sessions typically run for three hours each day. Classes should be hands-on opportunities for creative expression using the visual and language arts, science, and other inspiring means of creation.  Art camp teachers are offered a daily honorarium of $250.

The Dove Block Project requires a background check for all instructors who teach youth, 18 and under, at the Dove Block facility and off-site locations. Background checks are conducted in a positive and private manner, with all expenses paid by the Dove Block. In doing so The Dove Block Project will continue to provide a safe environment for all youth. All youth instructors will be required to pass a simple background check prior to being put into our programming calendar. The Dove Block Project will have the right to refuse an instructor if they don’t pass the background check or if the instructor refuses to submit information for the background check.

Details about submitting proposals will be published before July 15, 2026. The deadline for submissions will be September 1, 2026. In the meantime, any questions about program proposals can be sent to info@thedoveblockproject.org.

All proposals will include:

  • A cover letter

  • Biographical materials (resume)

  • One or more high resolution images representing a visual sample of your topic

  • A general explanation of the program proposed

  • Preferred dates

  • A general outline of anticipated budget or related programming costs

  • Attendance cap

  • Participant age range

The Dove Block Project will review proposals based on overall artistic integrity and how the subject, media, or content fits in with the goals of The Dove. Applicants will receive a reply one month after the submission deadline.
